Your wages are considered a part of your overall assets. The Internal Revenue Service has the right to begin wage garnishment if you continue to ignore their correspondence and refuse to take steps in a positive direction enabling you to pay them the money that is owed to the federal government. The IRS is entitled to its money, and will aggressively pursue that payment.

Wage garnishment can control a part of your wages or even the entire amount of your payment until your tax debt is settled. Wage garnishment can do tremendous damage to your family, and is the worst way to repay your taxes. This is a legal matter and your employer, if asked by the Internal Revenue Service, is required by law to directly submit a part of your earnings to the Internal Revenue Service.

The Internal Revenue Service ultimately uses this option as a scare tactic. It is not their desire to cause hardship to you and your family, but if you do not take steps to resolve the issue, wage garnishment will continue until all debts owed to the Internal Revenue Service are paid.

There are many ways to end wage garnishment. For one, you can contact the Internal Revenue Service and begin negotiating ways of repayment. The Internal Revenue Service will listen to your specific situation and offer recommendations to turn your circumstances around and stop your wage garnishment.

You might be eligible to negotiate installment of payments or submit an Offer in Compromise. The Internal Revenue Service is willing and able to assist you in righting your wrongs and can make paying your tax debt off painless. You do not have to suffer wage garnishment, and you should take action to avoid it.

To avoid wage garnishment completely, you need to settle with the Internal Revenue Service in a timely manner. Starting communication with the Internal Revenue Service is the first step. This is sufficient to stop wage garnishment. Many people feel the IRS is “out to get” honest people, but this is simply not true. The IRS wants the best resolution for the taxpayer and the federal treasury, and will work with anyone to resolve tax issues.

When you begin communication with the Internal Revenue Service to begin negotiations on resolving your account, you may be able to ask for a Release of Levy document. If you are granted this form, deliver, mail or fax it immediately to you employer and to your financial institution. There are other requirements that must be followed; however. In order to receive a Release of Levy and halt wage garnishment you must have filed a form 1040 will the Internal Revenue Service each year you were required to. They legally cannot halt wage garnishment if you have not taken this step.

If you have financial complications beyond your control you may be able to qualify for a status entitled Currently Not Collectible. To halt wage garnishment you must prove that you are unable to currently pay based on financial reasons. You can apply for this status regardless of what you owe the Internal Revenue Service.

All in all, it is important that all individual are aware that the Internal Revenue Service is here to assist us in our needs. You can also hire a tax attorney or tax professional you assist you and speak on your behalf to the Internal Revenue Service. If we are entitled to a refund, they want us to claim that money. If we owe the federal government money, they will work with us to claim payment of that amount. However, if an owing individual does not take responsibility for the debt, the Internal Revenue Service will do what is necessary to collect the past taxes.

Wage garnishment is one of these horrible means of collection. Be responsible and take the first step. Do not let wage garnishment be a burden to you and your family. The only real way to avoid wage garnishment is to work with the IRS; quitting a job or running from the debt simply will not resolve the problem.
